Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of Pistacia Lentiscus Linn, recent scientific research in wound healing.
Pistacia lentiscus Linn (Family – Anacardiaceae) is an evergreen bush which is native throughout the Mediterranean region and predominately cultivated on the Greek island Chios. It grows wild also in Turkey, Marocco, Algeria, France, Spain and Italy. The resin part of this plant, known as Mastic resin, and plant named mastic tree has a great medicinal value and already has been used in traditional system of medicines. Resin of P. lentiscus has been used for variety of gastric ailments in the Mediterranean and Middle East countries for the last 3000 years. Further highlight of the discovered pharmacological effects and phytochemical properties of P. lentiscus may provide an insight to promote study and research to expand its use to modern Medicine.
